I'm Carolyn Spann and was born and reared in Charleston, South Carolina. I attended public school and graduated. After graduating from high school,
my path in life led me to joining the United States Army. There I served three years and greatly enjoyed being away from home. This was the right choice for me; I desperately help with tuition. While in the military I was able to visit places I never thought I would go.The most enjoying assignment was
in Europe. Traveling through Europe and playing basketball was a dream come true.Cherished memories of people and places will happily live in my heart
forever.
After the expiration of my enlistment, I returned home and began my college. I worked full-time during the day and attended night classes. I began my education at Palmer College, Bull Street. Sometimes I had to walk from the city of Charleston to North Charleston if I missed the bus going to North Charleston.
Later, I dated and married my elementary school classmate. We lived in Charleston for a short period of time. Then I continued my education and had to go to school on my wedding night. Talking about it brought a lot of laughter.
The digital storytelling strategy has inspired me to learn more about it and offer this enrichment approach of learning to my student. Although I have used multimedia in the classroom, I can envision the students' eagerness and excitement about creating and sharing their productions. It also gives the student a voice in creatively telling their story. Stories are designed, produced, and published by students using the movie maker tool or other software. Project can be informative, engaging, and promote higher level thinking skills. This creative way of storytelling creates a lively and motivating way of telling stories of all kinds. A variety of tools are available to create digital stories. Since the future of writing is digital, this is a wonderful opportunity to help prepare our students of the global challenges.
I will use this new technology to introduce and teach the content area standards, and encourage reluctant writers to become more involved. In math concepts can be explained, in science experiments can be shown, and in history students can role play from the perspective of a historical figure. Students will be introduced to using images, voice narration, music and videos to tell a story. Integrating storyboarding, writing a script, revision and presentation are inclusive with the Writing Process. Students will be encouraged to explore technology in a fun and enjoying way and gain deeper knowledge of content area.
Landforms is a part of the curriculum and using this as an introduction will help motivate students to be knowledgeable of how the earth has been formed. The Landform story will be integrated with a counterpart, a web quest. Storyboard:
